JOIN US AT THE HAVEN FRI FEB 14 FOR THE JAM SESSION

On Friday Feb the 14th we are proud to partner with Manifesto|Jamaica for The Jam Session at The Haven (12 Hillcrest Ave, Kingston) featuring guest musicians from US-based King’s Highway Caribbean Jazz. Get lost in the #reggae x #jazz x improv vibe. Admission is $500 and free with student ID. All proceeds support music education. The Jam Session is sponsored by Kings Highway, manifesto Jamaica and Jamaica Nice.

Featuring King’s Highway band members Mark Berney (trumpet), Nathan Sabanayagam (drums) and Alex Beram (trombone), alongside Kingston-based O’niel Dacres (keys) and Carlton Jarret (bass), The Jam Session links straight ahead jazz with Jamaican folk and popular music styles.

ABOUT THE FEATURED MUSICIANS

Professor Mark Berney is Lecturer of Music at the University of Rhode Island and trumpeter for King’s Highway. In addition to over 30 recordings he has toured internationally with Itzhak Perlman and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. A devoted music educator, Berney serves as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the world and teaches music to students of all ages. Click here to watch Prof Berney perform with the Mark Berney Quartet.

Armed with a degree in Chemistry and another in music (Cum Laude) with a concentration in Music Synthesis from Berklee College, Nathan Sabanayagam counts Jamaican Winston Grennan and Ethiopian  Melaku Retta as early mentors. Click here to watch Nathan Sabanayagam perform with Jah’Mila and Naya Rockers.

A past General Manager of The Regattabar, Boston’s leading jazz venue, and past Associate Professor in the Music Business / Management Department at Berklee College of Music, Alex Beram most recently helped to found and lead the successful March for Music Education (MME) Scholarship Campaign and is now making MME an international catalyst for music education and vocational skills development.
